Fall Season COVID-19 Play Overview

Redwood City AYSO offers youth soccer to our community with the goals of teaching skills and techniques to players in a friendly environment that is safe, fair, and fun. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is not possible to offer our traditional soccer program. However, we are pleased to offer a modified program that operates within safety guidelines mandated by the State of California, San Mateo County Health, and Redwood City Parks and Recreation.

The program will be made up of small teams under the supervision of AYSO volunteer coaches for ages 8U and older. The teams will meet twice a week (mid-week) for non-contact training sessions for 8 weeks, starting the week of September 21. These sessions will include conditioning and skills training, and there will be no mixing of players between teams. There will be no games or scrimmages, including practice scrimmages within the team. Player t-shirts will be provided. Cost of the program is $100.

There will be safety protocols in effect for all players, coaches, parents, and other volunteers, including physical distancing, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), symptom and temperature check, and extra sanitation measures. If the event of a COVID exposure or infection, that individual along with those with whom s/he came in contact must follow county guidelines for quarantine or isolation, typically 14 days.

There are no refunds. The costs of running this program are not recoverable, so we are not able to offer refunds. This includes, but is not limited to, any cancellation or suspension due to COVID infections or exposure and/or modifications to general or youth sports guidance by state or local health officials.

This is an excellent time for new players to develop basic skills, and for returning players to reinforce skills already learned, and everyone will learn new skills.  It’s also an opportunity to be outside, get some exercise, and be with a small group of children in the same age group in a safe, physically distanced manner.  And, it will be FUN!

Volunteer Coaches are needed! AYSO is an all-volunteer organization, and we count on our volunteer coaches. It is very fulfilling and training is provided.
