USSF/AYSO Cross-Certification - 2009 (Last updated 3/09/09)

Cross-certification is available to referees of AYSO and USSF who have been certified as referees for six months or more and who are not certified with both organizations. All games officiated for AYSO or USSF may be applied toward the certification requirements of either AYSO or USSF. The diagonal system of control is the only recognized system of control.

Important note: You may only cross-certify ONCE. It is strongly suggested that AYSO referees with a Regional badge who wish to become USSF certified, complete their Intermediate AYSO certification first and then cross-certify rather than taking a USSF grade 8 course.

USSF to AYSO

If you are a current USSF referee (Grade 8 or higher) who wants to become an AYSO certified referee you need to complete the following steps:

1. Fill out the AYSO/USSF cross-certification agreement.
2. Have that cross-certification form signed by the USSF State Referee Administrator (see the California North Referee website for the latest contact information). You should include a self addressed stamped envelope if you want to get the form back in an expeditious manner.
3. Fill out an AYSO volunteer registration form with your region (for Redwood City, AYSO Region 1, contact the Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate).
4. Once you are registered as an AYSO volunteer, have the cross-certification form signed by the Regional Commisioner.
5. Make a copy of the completed cross-certification form!
6. Send the completed form to:

7. Contact the Regional Referee Administrator and let him know of your availability.

AYSO to USSF

If you are an AYSO referee (Intermediate or higher) who wants to become a USSF certified referee you need to complete the following steps:

1. Fill out the AYSO/USSF cross-certification agreement.
2. Have the form signed by the Area Referee Administrator ( for Area 2N) for Intermediate or Advanced referees, or by the Section Referee Administrator for National referees.
3. Fill out a USSF registration form .  For referees on the peninsula, the district area is 2 and the State affiliation is CA-N (California North). Check out the CNRA registration page if you have questions or contact the .
4. Don't forget to make a copy of your forms before sending them in!!
5. Send two (2) copies of the USSF form and one (1) copy of the cross-certification form to:

6. Include a check made payable to CNRA for $40. Please note that the $ amount listed on the cross-certification form is incorrect.
