Round Robin Play Schedule - Boys Schedule - Girls Standings Playoffs Playoff Schedule

Coaches & assistants: Please be sure to read ALL of the information and make sure that you understand it. If you have a question ask, don't assume.

Overview

The U14 tournament will consist of two phases: round robin play and playoffs. Round robin play will take place on Saturday Nov. 1st through Thursday Nov. 13th. There will be games on Saturdays as well as Tuesday and Thursay evenings. Playoffs will be held on Saturday Nov. 15th. All games will be on Bechet field at Red Morton park. The winner of the boy's tournament and the winner of the girl's tournament will advance to the Area 2N tournament which will be held on December 6th & 7th in Foster city.

Coaches Meeting

A coaches meeting will be held on Thursday October 16, 2008 from 7:30 – 8:30 PM at 5th Quarter Pizza. This is a MANDATORY meeting. Failure to send a team representative will result in a one (1) point deduction during pool play. Don't forget to bring your player ratings to the meeting as there will be an additional one (1) point deduction for teams that fail to turn them in at or prior to this meeting. Our apologies for the stick, but that is our only way of making sure this gets done.

General Comments

  1. Please keep the AYSO philosophies of Good Sportsmanship and Positive Coaching in mind during the tournament.
  2. Parents, friends, distant relatives etc. are the coach's responsibility. Please remind your parents that if they bring relatives & friends to the game that they need to behave in a respectfull manner.
  3. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed at AYSO events.
  4. Dogs, BBQs, food, sunflower seeds etc. (see the city signs posted at the fields) are not allowed on the synthetic all weather fields.
  5. The consequences and outcome for an abandoned or terminated match will be determined by the division coordinator, the head coach, the head referee, the CVPA, and the regional commissioner.
  6. Any other problems or issues that may arise will be resolved by the division coordinator, the head coach, the head referee, the CVPA, and the regional commissioner.
  7. All decisions are final and no protests will be allowed.

Round Robin Play

There are 4 boys teams and 5 girls teams. During round robin play all teams will play each other (every boys teams will play 3 matches and every girls teams 4). Advancement to the playoffs will be determined by points.

  • Matches will consist of two thirty five (35) minutes halves
  • Half time will be 5 minutes and teams must return PROMPTLY to the field when summoned by the referee
  • Substitutions will take place approximately midway throught the first and second halves and at half time
  • Players are required to play 1/2 of every match (referees will enforce this)
  • Players arriving late will be credited with having played each quarter that they are late
  • A player may be a goalkeeper the entire match (provided that the substitution requirements are met)
  • Coaches should be prepared for substitutions and not waste the player's playing time
  • Referees, at their discretion, may add time for injury or lengthy substitutions
  • Teams are not required to play down
  • Matches can end in a tie
  • The top four (4) teams (based on points) will go on to the playoffs

Standings

Points will be awarded/deducted as follows:

  • +6 points for a win
  • +3 points for a tie
  • 0 points for a loss
  • +1 point for each goal scored up to a maximum of 3
  • +1 point for a shutout (a 0 – 0 tie does not count as a shutout)
  • A forfeit will be scored as a 1 – 0 match in favor of the team that was present. If both teams forfeit then neither will receive any points.
  • –1 point for each caution (Yellow Card)
  • –2 points for each send-off (Red Card)
  • –4 points if a coach or assistant coach is expelled

Tie breakers will be as follows:

  1. Head-to-head play
  2. Least points deducted
  3. Least goals allowed
  4. Most goals scored
  5. Kicks from the penalty mark (we hope that it does not come to this... but if it does, the time and place will be determined by the Division Director)

Playoffs

Four boys and four girls teams will participate in the playoffs. The playoffs will consist of two semi-finals, a final for the winners of the semi-finals and a consolation game for losers.

  • Games are single elimination
  • Matches will consist of two thirty five (35) minute halves
  • Half time will be 5 minutes and teams must return PROMPTLY to the field when summoned by the referee
  • Substitutions will take place approximately midway throught the first and second halves and at half time
  • Players are required to play 1/2 of every match (referees will enforce this)
  • Players arriving late will be credited with having played each quarter that they are late
  • A player may be a goal keeper the entire match (provided that the substitution requirements are met)
  • Coaches should be prepared for substitutions and not waste the player's playing time
  • Referees, at their discretion, may add time for injury or lengthy substitutions
  • Teams are not required to play down
  • If a match is tied at the end of regulation play, two seven (7) minute overtime periods will be played (Note: there is no golden goal).
  • Free substitution will be allowed during OT but only at throw-ins (on your possession), goal kicks (either team), kickoffs (either team), or injuries (only the injured player).
  • Remember to get the referee's approval before substituting and make sure that substitutes enter at the halfway line.
  • If the match is still tied at the end of the two overtime periods, then the winner will be determined by kicks from the penalty mark.

Note: Only those players on the field of play at the end of OT may participate in kicks from the penalty mark. Coaches and substitutes must stay off the field during that time.
