U12 Tournament - 2012 (last updated: 11/18/12 @ 12:00 PM)

Pool Play Pool schedule - Boys Pool schedule - Girls Pools & Standings Playoffs Playoff Schedule

Coaches & assistants: Please be sure to read ALL of the information and make sure that you understand it. If you have a question ask, don't assume. The playoff results have been posted. Congratulations to G05 and B07 who will go on to represent Redwood City at the Area tournament in Foster City on Dec. 1st and 2nd.

Overview

The U12 tournament will consist of two phases: pool play and playoffs. Round robin play will take place on Saturday Oct. 27th, Nov. 3rd, and Nov. 10th. Playoffs will be held on Saturday Nov. the 17th. The winner of the boy's tournament and the winner of the girl's tournament will advance to the Area 2N tournament which will be held on December 1st & 2nd in Foster city. Since the boys teams have small rosters they will play 9 v. 9, the girls teams have large rosters and have opted to play 11 v. 11 (note: the area tournament will be 9 v. 9 for both boys and girls).

Coaches Meeting

A MANDATORY pre-tournament coaches meeting will be held on Tuesday Oct. 23rd, from 7:30 – 8:30 PM. This meeting will be held at the Community Activities Building located at 1400 Roosevelt.

Failure to send a team representative will result in a one (1) point deduction during pool play. You will also need to turn in your player ratings at this meeting. Failure to do so, will result in a one (1) point deduction. Contact the division coordinator if you have any questions. Our apologies for the stick, but that is our only way of making sure this gets done.

General Comments

  1. Please keep the AYSO philosophies of Good Sportsmanship and Positive Coaching in mind during the tournament.
  2. Parents, friends, distant relatives etc. are the coach's responsibility. Please remind your parents that if they bring relatives & friends to the game that they need to behave in a respectful manner.
  3. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed at AYSO events.
  4. Dogs, BBQs, food, sunflower seeds etc. (see the city signs posted at the fields) are not allowed on the synthetic all weather fields.
  5. Problems or issues that may arise will be resolved by the tournament committee, which shall consist of the Division Coordinator, the Coach Administrator, the Referee Administrator, the CVPA, and the Regional Commissioner.
  6. All decisions are final and no protests will be allowed.

Pool Play

The boys and girls teams are each divided into two pools based on season performance. The top two teams are randomly assigned to either pool, the next two are distributed likewise (i.e. randomly), etc. This is done to create pools that are as balanced and random as possible. Team assignments within a pool (A, B, ...) are random. Each team will play every other team in their pool. Since the girl's pools only have 3 teams, the 3rd and final game will be played against a team from the other pool.

You must have your team present and READY TO PLAY (at least 7 players, line up card ready, etc.) 15 minutes prior to the match. A forfeit will be declared if a team is unable to play (insufficient # of players, not checked in, no coach, no medical forms, etc.) at the scheduled start time.

  • All boys matches will be 9 v. 9
  • All girls matches will be 11 v. 11
  • Matches will consist of two thirty (30) minutes halves.
  • Half time will be 5 minutes and teams must return PROMPTLY to the field when summoned by the referee
  • Substitutions will take place approximately midway throught the first and second halves and at half time
  • No player will sit out 2 quarters until all have sat out 1
  • Players arriving late will be credited with having played each quarter that they are late
  • A player may not be a goalkeeper for more than 1/2 the match
  • Coaches should be prepared for substitutions and not waste playing time
  • Referees, at their discretion, may add time for injury or lengthy substitutions
  • Teams are not required to play down
  • Matches can end in a tie
  • The top two (2) teams (based on points) from each pool will go on to the playoffs

Points will be awarded/deducted and disciplinary actions taken as follows:

  • +6 points for a win
  • +3 points for a tie
  • 0 points for a loss
  • +1 point for each goal scored up to a maximum of 3
  • +1 point for a shutout (a 0 – 0 tie does not count as a shutout)
  • A forfeit will be scored as a 1 – 0 match in favor of the team that was present. If both teams forfeit then neither will receive any points.
  • –1 point for each caution (Yellow Card)
  • –2 points for each send-off (Red Card) Note: a 2nd caution in the same match will be counted as a total deduction of –2 points
  • –4 points if a coach or assistant coach is expelled
  • –2 points per substitution violation - a team with more than 4 substitution voilatons may be disqualified
  • The outcome of an abandoned or terminated match will be determined by the tournament committee
  • Additional points may be deducted, matches declared forfeit, or teams disqualified, if the tournament committee deems that necessary to deal with egregious situations
  • Player sanctions may also be imposed for misconduct, bad sportsmanship, or substitution violations as determined by the tournament committee

Tie breakers will be as follows:

  1. Head-to-head play
  2. Least points deducted
  3. Most goals scored
  4. Least goals allowed
  5. Kicks from the penalty mark (we hope that it does not come to this... the time and place will be determined by the league)
