Mid-season meeting

End-of-the-season meeting
The end-of-the-season meeting and thank you dinner for all referees will be held in December 2008. Details to follow.
Refresher classes
There will be a refresher class sometime in August but the date and location have not been determined yet. Stay tuned for more info...
If you cannot make that class, then feel free to drop in on either of the regional referee courses. The 2nd session is the one where we cover all of the key information (restarts, fouls and misconduct, and offside).
Mentoring
Mentors are available for any referee who would like some additional on-the field pointers. Please contact either or to arrange for mentoring. In addition, there will be mentors at ALL U-10 games for the first 4 weeks of the season. These mentors will meet with you before and after each game to give you additional support and direction beyond what you will have learned in the classroom. Please feel free to ask them questions.
Division Specific Information
The games are played under the Laws Of The Game (FIFA) and the AYSO National Rules and Regulations. For the younger divisions U5 - U10, Region 1 (Redwood City) has adopted a small game format. These modifications are allowed by FIFA (see page 3 of the Laws Of The Game) and have been approved by AYSO National. The differences between divisions are summarized in the following table: Differences by division.
2008 Law changes
Details of the law changes will be posted when they become available.
Misconduct
Any misconduct in a Region 1 game (Redwood City) for which a player was Cautioned/Sent-Off or a team official expelled, must be reported by the Referee to the league. You can do this online but you should also mark it in your game report on the lineup card. Any misconduct in an Area game must be reported within 24 hours to Area 2N. This can also be done online. If necessary, you should follow up those reports with a match report detailing the incident(s) and submit that report to the the Regional Referee Administrator or the Area Referee Administrator.
Serious Incident or Injury
If you are involved in a serious incident (threats, or fight, or police summoned) or if you are injured then you must fill out an AYSO Incident Report. You should also contact the Regional Referee Administrator. If you plan on filing an insurance claim with AYSO (you must have registered as a volunteer in order to qualify) you will need to fill out the AYSO soccer accident insurance form. For more information on AYSO's accident insurance coverage please check the AYSO National web site. Injuries to players should be submitted to the league by the coach but the cautious referee will also file a match report detailing the incident.
Tournaments
Tournaments rules may have some modification from those that are used during the regular season. A pre-tournament referee meeting will be held on Thursday October 30, 2008 from 7:00 8:00 PM. This meeting will be held at Peninsula Covenant Church located at 3560 Farm Hill Blvd in Redwood City. We will be in rooms 22B & 22C in the single story building across the grass from the sanctuary.
Ongoing Education
There are many opportunities for you to improve your skills. Beyond taking additional courses and getting help from mentors on the field, we would suggest that you become very familiar with the Laws Of The Game and with the 2007 USSF Advice to Referees (ATR).
